CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Electric utilities say the number of electric customers without power continues to increase amid strong winds from a powerful storm system moving across the Lowcountry.
As of 4:45 p.m., Dominion Energy reported more almost 40,000 outages across the Lowcountry:
- 20,723 in Charleston County
- 7,144 in Dorchester County
- 5,600 in Beaufort County
- 3,672 in Colleton County
- 1,309 in Orangeburg County
- 1,121 in Berkeley County
Other utilities reported the following outages:
- Coastal Electric Cooperative reported 4,401 people without power in Colleton County.
- Edisto Electric Cooperative reported 2,164 outages in Dorchester County and 25 in Colleton County.
- Berkeley Electric Cooperative reported 8,271 without power across the Tri-County area.
- Santee Electric Cooperative reported 973 offline in Williamsburg County.
- Palmetto Electric Cooperative reported 35 without power in Beaufort County

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for most of South Carolina Tuesday morning that includes 40 of the state’s 46 counties and all of the Lowcountry, including Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Colleton, Beaufort, Williamsburg and Georgetown Counties. The watch remains in effect until 6 p.m.
