The online database system allowing private landowners in North Dakota to electronically post their property is now available.

The North Dakota Legislature passed a bill during the 2021 session to allow electronic posting of private land, giving landowners another option for posting private property. The law goes into effect Sunday, Aug. 1.

In addition to current posting laws allowing landowners to post land with physical signs, electronic posting adds the option to digitally post land. The digital posting system is linked to land descriptions based on county tax parcel information.

Landowners interested in posting electronically for the coming hunting season can log into My Account on the North Dakota Game and Fish Department website, gf.nd.gov. The deadline for landowners to digitally post land is Thursday, July 15, which is necessary to make the map information available before the early Canada goose hunting opportunities in mid-August.

Landowners new to the site will need to create a profile, while others who have previously purchased a hunting or fishing license can proceed to the Land Parcel section at the bottom of the page.

The Game and Fish website has complete instructions for landowners to follow, along with frequently asked questions for both landowners and hunters.

With Minnesota’s 2021 spring turkey hunting season entering its final weeks, the Department of Natural Resources reminds firearms turkey hunters who have an unused tag from an earlier hunt period that they can participate in the final hunt period, which began Wednesday, May 19, and continues through Monday, May 31.

Hunters may also purchase a license for this time period. Archery-only and hunters age 17 and younger are allowed to hunt during any time period, including the final one. Hunters cannot purchase both a firearms and archery-only license.

Turkey licenses can be purchased online at mndnr.gov/buyalicense, by phone at (888) 665-4236 or in person from a license agent. More information about turkey hunting in Minnesota can be found on the DNR website at mndnr.gov.

Anyone interested in learning more about the DNR’s Quality Sunfish Initiative, which aims to protect and improve sunfish sizes, is invited to join a webinar from the DNR at noon Wednesday, May 26.

Dave Weitzel, DNR Grand Rapids area fisheries supervisor, and Kraig Kiger, DNR shooting sports education specialist, will host the sunfish initiative webinar.

The webinar is part of the Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series, which aims to give participants quick, relevant information on upcoming seasons and events, and skills to help enjoy these opportunities.

The DNR reminds anglers to closely check the 2021 Minnesota Fishing Regulations booklet and signs at water accesses for new sunfish limits that are in effect on 94 waters across the state. The new regulations went into effect March 1. Lower limits on specific waters are part of an initiative to protect and increase sunfish sizes. These changes are in response to angler-driven concerns over the declining sizes of sunfish in Minnesota.

Mille Lacs Lake anglers can keep one walleye from 21 to 23 inches, or one over 28 inches, through Monday, May 31, the DNR said in a reminder. Walleye fishing will be catch-and-release from Tuesday, June 1, through Wednesday, June 30.

A two-week closure – implemented to reduce hooking mortality – will be in place from Thursday, July 1, through Thursday, July 15. During the walleye closure, angling is allowed for all other species. Catch-and-release walleye fishing will resume on Friday, July 16, and continue through Wednesday, Sept. 15.

Fishing hours on Mille Lacs Lake are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for all species. Beginning Saturday, June 5, muskie and northern pike anglers using artificial lures or sucker minnows longer than 8 inches can fish after 10 p.m. The one-fish walleye limit is scheduled to resume Thursday, Sept. 16, through Tuesday, Nov. 30. During the late season, the DNR also will allow anglers to fish from 6 a.m. to midnight.

Want to add even more fun to your fishing? The Minnesota DNR suggests giving pike fishing a try. Often underutilized, pike can be exciting to catch and make great table fare, too.

Check out the DNR learn to fish page for a how-to guide. Anglers who might want to keep pike should familiarize themselves with the regulations and be prepared to measure the fish. Minnesota has three northern pike zones that apply to inland waters and reflect the differing characteristics of pike populations across the state.

Leave fawns alone.

That’s the annual reminder from the Minnesota DNR. Most fawns are born from mid-May to mid-June. During their first few weeks of life, they do not attempt to evade predators. Instead, they remain still to avoid being seen. Anyone who sees fawn alone should avoid disturbing them as they’re busy learning critical survival skills from their mothers (who often are foraging nearby).

Be assured deer fawns do fine even if they appear abandoned or fragile, the DNR said.
