Orland Township residents line up to drop off documents to be destroyed at last year’s shredding event.

Orland Township will host a shredding and electronic recycling event for Township residents who want to safely dispose of unwanted personal documents and rid themselves of old electronics, according to the office of Township Supervisor Paul O'Grady.

ProShred trucks will be on site and all paper shredding will be free. Residents are limited to five banker boxes of shredding. This event is not intended for businesses.

"Many people did a lot of cleaning during the stay at home order earlier this year and have old documents they need to destroy," said Supervisor O'Grady. "Orland Township is happy to be able to provide a safe way for residents to dispose of those personal documents."

Electronic recycling will also be accepted at the event. Coupons must be purchased for all televisions and computer monitors. Computer monitors and televisions should be measured diagonally: those that are smaller than 21 inches are $25; those that are 21 inches and larger are $35. Coupons can be pre-purchased at recycling.eworksesi.org or at the event by credit card only.

The Orland Township Shred and Electronic Recycling Event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Orland Township Highway Department, 16125 S. Wolf Rd., Orland Park.

The event is for Orland Township residents only and residents are asked to bring I.D.

Following CDC guidelines regarding social distancing and to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, residents attending the event are asked to adhere to the following:

  • Please wear a mask when interacting with Township staff
  • Please stay in your vehicle at all times
  • Place shredding and electronic recycling in trunk or cargo area of vehicle. Township staff will unload your vehicle. Please be sure to remove any items not intended for shredding or electronic recycling. Please have trunk or cargo area unlocked or have the ability to open/unlock from the inside of your vehicle.

For more information, including a list of accepted items, visit the Township's website, orlandtownship.org or contact the Highway Department at (708) 403-5148.
